Head Above Water

Let me start by saying that I HATE drinking water.  I hate that there are no bubbles, and I particulary can't stand the taste (or severe lack thereof).  However, as part of my dieting quest I have to drink lots and lots of the dang stuff.  I've tried using the Crystal Light packets, but they make me thirsty (how weird???).  So I've resigned myself to water with a splash of lemon juice which seems to be the answer to my water woes.
Another thing that has been making it easier to swallow (all puns intended) are the outstanding array of vessels from which I can sip.

Currently I am using this Rubbermaid bottle which I bought on sale at CVS (3 for $1.99)

This is my favorite tumbler I bought on my last trip to Savannah.  Obviously Paula Deen will be strictly off limits next time I'm down there if I have any hope of staying on my diet. (Please excuse my Post-It pile creeping in the background)

I love, love, love my Tervis Tumbler.  It comes in hundreds of cute designs, and the double layer prevents "sweat" on the outside which is always gross.
But I think I'm going to order a monogrammed one next in a smaller size

Weekly Weigh In

Today has not been my day.  First I get stuck in traffic because 3 buses crashed into a motorcycle in the tunnel, and obviously I had a 9am meeting.  Then, and this is worse than the traffic, I spilled my coffee on my way out of cafeteria.  And to add insult to injury I had my Weight Watchers weigh in today and I GAINED 0.2 lbs :(  Considering what I'd eaten over the past week I should consider myself lucky that it wasn't 10!

Saturday night I was out for my friend birthday party near Rutgers and we stopped at the grease trucks and got a late night Fat Koko- steakum, mozz, marinara sauce, mozz sticks, and french fries all in one sandwich- and it was disgusting but soooo DELISH!!!  Tuesday night I went out for happy hour and wound up snacking on fried calamari and coconut shrimp, not to mention the 5 cocktails I consumed.  And last night I had a pity party featuring a CHIPOTLE burrito bowl.  Based on this menu of treats 0.2 lbs is a blessing.

Damask, Don't Tell

Ok, the title of this post is a terrible (I mean reeeeally terrible) pun.  But bad jokes aside, my new found love for floral damask prints is no joke.  Traditional damask fabric is a Byzantine weaving technique to create raised patterns or designs using silk fabrics.  Of course now it is often used to describe the pattern rather than fabric itself.

Here are some of my favorite damask printed items.

Haul it In

The night before the Minute to Win It party my best friend, Miss Liss, and I went to Target to get supplies for the games.  Needless to say I bought everything except what I needed.  And I think the sudden warm spell we were having in the northeast made me delirious, because I bought the cutest things that are NOT black.

I'm usually an all black all the time kind of girl, but I love the brightness of this blue which strays faaaaaar out of my comfort zone.  I would total rock this dress now with opaque tights and a cardi.

This shirt is greener in person, but I love this shade of olive…it's juuuuust right.  I love it even more because I can wear it with my new brown riding boots.

It's still February but I HAD to have these sandals.  I couldn't take the disappointment if I went back in the spring and they didn't have my size in stock.  I can't wait for SUMMER!!!

And how cute is this cold pack!?!  I couldn't leave without it.

Game Time

Have you ever seen the game show "Minute to Win It"?  Teams are given almost impossible tasks to complete in an attempt to win $1,000,000.  For example, a player has exactly 60 seconds to use the back of a large metal spoon to keep 3 marbles from sliding off a tilted table or bounce a quarter off a table and land it in the opening of one of those Poland Spring water jugs.  I've only watched 2 episodes and had to stop because it gave me serious ANXIETY.

Of course my brilliant friends decide that this will make for a great party idea...I started taking Xanax the second I got the invite.  My friend JC and I are TEAM BLACKNESS.  Don't we look tough!
And presenting the participants

The games included:

1) Ding Dong Unicorn

2) Cotton Ball Drop

3) Shoot Out
 4) Pop Off
And the winner is...
Team Blackness ninja-ed our way to the top of the scoreboard

Weekly Weigh In

So 4 weeks ago I joined Weight Watchers in an attempt to lose my winter layer of blubber.  Of course like the genius that I am, I joined 1 week before I left for a 2 week trip to the Philippines.  Before I left I was down 4.2 lbs., and today is my first weigh in since I've returned.  I was sweating bullets.  How much damage did I do to my progress?  Have I gained it all back? Or worse...did I get fatter than when I started???  After removing my sweater, belt, shoes, and watch I stepped onto the scale with trepidation.

The final result: -2.8 LBS.!!!!  I don't know how it's possible, but I managed to lose almost 3 lbs.  That brings my total weight loss to 7 lbs.  Maybe I really can do this!

Where to Begin

HELLO WORLD!!!  My name is Liz, and welcome to my world.  I'm a 30-something financial professional living in the armpit of America (aka New Jersey).  I fancy myself something of a fashionista who likes to mix designer finds (Chanel, Gucci, Manolo, Tory Burch, etc.) with affordable fashions (H&M, Target, Old Navy, etc.).  My fashion icons are Victoria Beckham, Hello Kitty, Brat Pack era Molly Ringwald, Jackie Kennedy, and Darth Vader.  Yes, it's an odd mix but each has had an influence in shaping my personal style.  So I guess that makes me a posh, cute, quirky, preppy, dark lord of the Sith.  Yup, that just about covers it.

I'm excited to take you on my adventures of fashion, food, and fun.
